Starting 2010 with Style

After a break from dance that was both too long (I love dance) and too short (my holidays are coming to an end), Auckland group had our first session for 2010 on Wednesday night. Needless to say we started the year off in style. When it comes to new dances, nothing is quite as good as learning a dance directly from the choreographer. We were extremely lucky to have Peter Leipnik from Melbourne visit our group. He is the choreographer of Nirkod Lashalom and he taught this dance to us. Said dance is beautiful and it is sure to become one that we will dance often. The dance also has the rare distinction of being nominated as a finalist in the Karmiel Festival Dance Competition 2008. Whilst the dance did not win the competition, it is the first time that a created outside Israel has made it onto the shortlist. Of course we also danced a number of our old favourites and some of the new material from last year's camp. The only problems were getting to class through truly horrendous traffic due to an "incident" on the motorway and being totally drenched after dance due to the high humidity. For those of you "out there" who are wondering when exactly we plan on meeting, a copy of our nifty dance calendar is below. Clicking on it will let you see the larger version. Here's hoping that the rest of our year is as great our last session. Jenni in Auckland
